Instruction Cadres

When professional development is focused on teachers’ self-identified needs, it is more impactful. Also, schools with a culture of reflective questioning and professional conversations operationalize many tenets of motivation research.

Two principals and I created a professional development experience called Instruction Cadres, which is a systematic way of supporting teachers in improving their practice. Instruction Cadres begin by leadership identifying an essential question that is connected to the school’s values and focus. Teachers then volunteer to participate, and they each choose an area of their practice on which to focus. Through group conversations and peer observations, the teachers gather evidence related to their problem of practice, discuss that evidence, and make a plan for moving forward. In brief, Instruction Cadres create space for educators to work collaboratively toward shared and individual goals.

Speaking

I have a foundational belief that all individuals can be successful, and the environments in which they function play a substantive role in nurturing that success. Leaders and educators can intentionally create environments where their students and colleagues are socially, emotionally, and cognitively successful.

I work with TK-16 educational stakeholders to ensure that children and adolescents are placed at the center of the learning experience. Using findings from cognitive neuroscience, motivation research, and teaching pedagogy, educators can implement intentional, evidence-based strategies to meet the needs of all learners.
